It seems like it’s been forever since last year’s Free Press Houston Summerfest and corresponding post. (Click here to visit last year’s blog post and relive Summerfest 2010) This year sort of snuck up on me. Regardless of my personal thoughts on the actual acts themselves, I’m proud to say that each year since its [...]

As I mentioned in my post last week, the past month or so has been crazy. A lot of actual shooting has given way to a lot of time editing and while I still have a ways to go to catch up (do we ever really catch up?) I wanted to pause for a second [...]

Back in October, I was browsing through my issue of PDN (Photo District News) magazine and came across an ad that was promoting one of their contests. I have never really paid much attention to contests, the few that I have entered in the past have been in the photojournalism realm and most of the [...]

The first few weeks of July 2010 were spent visiting family in Chicago and Akron, Ohio. My grandmother turned 80 and members of our family from all parts of the globe congregated in Ohio to surprise her for her birthday. Even though the travel was personal and not business, I still took a ton of photos. This post is the second in a series of 4 dedicated to the images made during the trip. Here you will see photos taken with my Canon 5D mark II digital camera.

One of my regular editorial clients is my hometown newspaper, The Houston Chronicle. Since my workload lately consists of more corporate work, getting an assignment from the Chron often seems like a much needed break. From triathlons to plastic surgeons, these are my favorite images produced on location for The Houston Chronicle between January and June, 2010.

After 2 long days of live music at the 2010 Free Press Houston Summerfest at Eleanor Tinsley Park in Houston, Texas, I think I need a nap. Over 70 bands performed in total. Among the artists I photographed were, Girl Talk, Ra Ra Riot, Stars, Slim Thug and Bun-B, The Flaming Lips and more. Some rain on Sunday dampened the mood a bit, but everyone was in good spirits and had a great time.

This past weekend I had the chance to photograph Vince Young’s annual celebrity basketball game here in Houston at Butler Sports Complex, a familiar spot for the native Houstonian. Vince Young is well known in Houston as he drew a lot of attention as a high school prospect in the area, eventually playing college ball [...]

Last weekend (actually Saturday!) I got the call to shoot some racing action out in Baytown, Texas at Houston Raceway Park. The NHRA O’Reilly Spring Nationals drag racing event was in town and it was a great weekend to have it. The weather was awesome with a nice April breeze and without the sweltering heat. [...]

It’s almost been a week since I departed Houston for Austin and the live music mecca that is South by Southwest, yet it still feels like I’m recovering. It’s mostly the severe seasonal allergies, but the journey wore me out, like it does every year, but like every year, I had a blast and saw [...]

Last Saturday I had a rather unusual assignment to cover the 2010 Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by my Alma-mater, the University of Houston. As I prepared for the event I realized that out of all the things I have shot in the past and out of all the sports I have shot [...]

I spent some time this past Saturday afternoon with longtime client, Planet Funk Academy at the Wortham Center in Houston’s theater district as they prepared to take the stage. I have photographed the renowned dance academy for nearly 5 years now and although the faces have changed, the energy is still the same. During my [...]

As we wrap up the first week of the new year I can’t help but reflect on the past year. There were struggles as there are with anything, but I’d be remised if I didn’t sit back and be thankful for the good things. I met a lot of great people, made a few new [...]

Yes, this is one of these posts. The ones where I preface my blog entry by apologizing for my absence and saying that it won’t happen again, but it’s bound to. At least I have a good excuse. For the past month now Ive been in Brasil with a 10-day visit to Africa. There are [...]

On Saturday morning after a Chron assignment up north, I headed out to Discovery Green (Houston’s new-ish park downtown) to check out the Dock Dogs event. It’s a nationwide competition where local dogs compete in a series of events such as longest jump, highest, etc. I saw some other images from similar events from colleagues [...]

As a regular freelancer for The Houston Chronicle, a major metro daily, nearly half a million people see my pictures from day to day, but the next day many of the photos are either used as kindling, pooped on by pets or recycled. Of course they are archived by me, but are rarely shown. It [...]

My second proper Houston live music show of 2009 crept up on me quick. I had no idea there was a show I had planned on attending tonight, but thankfully the Rockets were playing in LA, which meant the game didn’t start until 9:30pm CST. That gave Chris and I enough time to go to [...]

What a weekend! I’ve been pretty busy shooting the past week. After shooting several assignments this week for the Houston Chronicle, I decided to take Friday night and shoot something for myself. I’m totally on a blogging spree today. Tonight my boy Stef aka P.O.S. came to town with Saosin and Underoath and another hokey new metal band that all the kids like. Stef is a hip-hop artist and it’s always lovely to see him open for punk/metal acts. All of the 15-18 year old kids smashed [...]

I’ve had an extra exciting week. Thursday I did an assignment for the Chron at Moody Garden’s on the relatives of the Titanic survivors. Friday I flew in a helicopter over Galveston and Bolivar for our upcoming movie, The Messenger. Friday, I photographed the amazing guys in Bayside.
