WORKING WITH KIDS!

WORKING WITH KIDS!

For 3 days in mid-November I had the pleasure of working with a handful of children from local Houston area Boys and Girls Clubs, teaching them photography on behalf of Canon and the NFL. I worked with children ranging in age from 9-16 and had an absolute blast teaching the children different aspects of photography from camera techniques and fundamentals to sports and portrait photography. See photos of the kids and read more about the experience here.

JAMESON TAILLON

JAMESON TAILLON

I recently photographed local pitching phenom, Jameson Taillon, at his high school’s home field in The Woodlands, Texas. Jameson was recently selected 2nd overall in Major League Baseball’s 2010 first-year player draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.

DEJA VU ALA VINCE YOUNG

DEJA VU ALA VINCE YOUNG

This past weekend I had the chance to photograph Vince Young’s annual celebrity basketball game here in Houston at Butler Sports Complex, a familiar spot for the native Houstonian. Vince Young is well known in Houston as he drew a lot of attention as a high school prospect in the area, eventually playing college ball [...]

FUTURE OLYMPIAN?

FUTURE OLYMPIAN?

A couple of weeks ago I got an assignment to photograph an up and coming high school swimming star from Kingwood, Texas. The image was going to accompany an article for the All Greater Houston section of the Houston Chronicle which is a special section highlighting outstanding high school athletes from the Houston area. After [...]

IRON MAN

IRON MAN

Late last Saturday evening I got a last minute call to cover the 2010 Lonestar Iron Man triathlon that was taking place in Galveston, Texas.

SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!

SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!

Last weekend (actually Saturday!) I got the call to shoot some racing action out in Baytown, Texas at Houston Raceway Park. The NHRA O’Reilly Spring Nationals drag racing event was in town and it was a great weekend to have it. The weather was awesome with a nice April breeze and without the sweltering heat. [...]

POWERLIFTING

POWERLIFTING

Earlier this month I spent a few hours with the University of Houston – Downtown‘s powerlifting team in their small gym space on their commuter campus downtown. The rather large team was cramped into a small public space in the school’s recreation center which made my assignment a little tough. What the team lacked in [...]

WATER WORLD

WATER WORLD

Last Saturday I had a rather unusual assignment to cover the 2010 Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by my Alma-mater, the University of Houston. As I prepared for the event I realized that out of all the things I have shot in the past and out of all the sports I have shot [...]

CHRON FAVS 2

CHRON FAVS 2

This is my second installment of my 2 part favorites post highlighting my favorite images taken during Houston Chronicle assignments. This post contains images from roughly mid-May 2009 through this past weekend taken from my Houston Chronicle assignments only. I am a regular contributor to my hometown newspaper and get to shoot all kinds of [...]

WHOSE HOUSE?

WHOSE HOUSE?

What a great few weeks. This is my first Fall back in Houston in 3 years. Fall internships have kept me away and its great to be home during this time. I have certainly missed the days when the Houston weather starts to get mild(er) and more importantly I get to cover my hometown Houston Texans [...]

SATURDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

SATURDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

So I got a call from a friend and newspaper photo editor to cover the high school season opener (aka Week 0) game between the North Shore Mustangs and the Katy Tigers at Rhodes Stadium in Katy last night. I don’t shoot as much sports as I used to given the fact that my primary [...]

DOCK DOGS

DOCK DOGS

On Saturday morning after a Chron assignment up north, I headed out to Discovery Green (Houston’s new-ish park downtown) to check out the Dock Dogs event. It’s a nationwide competition where local dogs compete in a series of events such as longest jump, highest, etc. I saw some other images from similar events from colleagues [...]

CHRON FAVS 1

CHRON FAVS 1

As a regular freelancer for The Houston Chronicle, a major metro daily, nearly half a million people see my pictures from day to day, but the next day many of the photos are either used as kindling, pooped on by pets or recycled. Of course they are archived by me, but are rarely shown. It [...]

ENGAGING

ENGAGING

I’m dipping my toes into all kinds of stuff in this new year, 2009. I don’t really do engagements all too often, but this was for a friend and her fiance who happens to work for the greatest baseball team of all time, The Houston Astros, so for that, I will. It also didn’t hurt [...]

BLOODY MIDGETS

BLOODY MIDGETS

What a weekend! I’ve been pretty busy shooting the past week. After shooting several assignments this week for the Houston Chronicle, I decided to take Friday night and shoot something for myself. I had seen that the Half Pint Brawlers were coming into town for a midget wrestling show and I knew that I had [...]

CROSS COUNTRY

CROSS COUNTRY

l’ll admit here that I know OF the sport of cross country, but really have not shot it until coming up here to PPC. I shot one quick race for the first time a few weeks ago that was a little hairy as I did not know how everything was set up. Its also pretty [...]

BITTERSWEET

BITTERSWEET

The past few days have been decent I suppose. I’ve done a number of high school sporting events lately and a ton of other stuff as well. Last night I was up for the better (and worst) part of the night monitoring the situation with Hurricane Ike and Houston from here in Baltimore. How amazing [...]

B&O AND THE YARDS

B&O AND THE YARDS

My off days this week were not especially entertaining. I was originally planning on catching a game at Camden Yards here in Baltimore (since I’m only living a few blocks away) on Tuesday, but the weather was bad so I ended up going yesterday. I headed out early enough to coincidentally catch co-worker Justin Condor [...]

NATIONALS PARK

NATIONALS PARK

Today was a day off for me, so I took care of some grocery shopping and also visited the inner harbor Best Buy to pick up the amazing Fun Run Kit, which is the Best Buy exclusive season 4 DVD set of The Office (aka best show ever) I also did some computer organizing and [...]

PPC FIRST WEEK

PPC FIRST WEEK

So yesterday was the magically Internet hook-up day for me at my new Baltimore City place. It was a long time coming as life is frustrating when you are in a new place, away from friends and family, without Internet. Ive been working at Patuxent Publishing Company for a week now and it has been a ride so [...]

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU

Its been almost a month since my last update. Wow. I’ve been busy, which is good I guess. Working on the movie, working on new internship things, and working on my brand new MacPro system. There’s nothing like 10Gb of RAM, 3 wide screen monitors and a fresh install of Final Cut Studio 2 to get the [...]

ALL HOPPED UP ON…STARBUCKS?

ALL HOPPED UP ON...STARBUCKS?

Wow. What a week! As you can see from my last entry, last weekend was filled with parties and NCAA basketball. Monday I assisted Robert with an awesome shoot. Wednesday I was taking photos of Planet Funk as they filmed a show for Oprah in Houston. Wednesday we also worked in Bolivar filming part of our [...]

D3 GOODNESS

D3 GOODNESS

What a weekend! Thursday I picked up my Astros season credential at Union Station (cant wait for the home opener) and headed then over to Reliant for my NCAA credentials. It was one post and one week or so ago that I was at Reliant and in that week the whole complex, mainly Reliant Stadium, was [...]

HOME SWEET FOOTBALL

HOME SWEET FOOTBALL

Monday was my last day in Colorado. I returned home to Houston Tuesday morning after 16 hours of driving through some of the most treacherous fog and ice I have ever seen. Although the temperatures have reached the 80′s since I’ve been home, it is very nice to be home again. As an odd twist, my last [...]
